From the original concept of ‘foreign’ in relation to territory and nation, to the one who is away from their homeland, the outsider, and those who travel, change places, the group approached the theme also as a concept, as a sensation, how it is to feel foreign. How/when are we foreign to ourselves? Subjects emerged such as stranger, assimilation, identity, self-image, mask, belonging, loneliness, loss, grief, essence, abnormality, intruder, among others.

This is a collaborative art study group in exchange between Germany and Brazil, with participants who live in Aachen and Santa Maria. It is coordinated by Talita Esquivel as part of the project she continues to develop as a guest artist/researcher in the Department of Visual Arts at RWTH Aachen University. The nationalities of the participants include Polish, Greek, English, Brazilian and German, bringing each one their own peculiar view of The Foreign Look.
